To create a sustainable world, it’s essential to think big and explore how responsible technology can shape our future. Let’s dive into its potential impact on climate action, sustainability, and even Mars agriculture. View full playlist.
How does space exploration impact sustainable development?
At the intersection of space exploration and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), research from Arizona State University reveals both promise and complexity.
The study highlights both the potential of space technologies to advance sustainable development and the challenges we must address to ensure inclusivity and sustainability. What SDG do you think space exploration can impact the most?
How do we become better stewards of “Spaceship Earth?”
We’re spotlighting bold ideas shaping a more resilient and thriving planet. One initiative is the Earth Operations Center—a collaboration with ASU, MIT and NASA designed to track and safeguard our planet’s health.
Much like a traditional spacecraft operations center, this project integrates earth systems science and economic modeling to monitor Earth’s ecological subsystems. By combining data and insights, it enables collaborative, informed decision-making in both virtual and physical spaces.
In 2021, this project was featured in a World Economic Forum white paper, highlighting its potential to become one of the most impactful contributions the global space community could make toward achieving net-zero emissions.
How might students use space tech to advance UN Sustainable Development Goals?
We’re showcasing how the next generation is stepping up to tackle global challenges. One exciting initiative leading the charge? The SpaceHACK for Sustainability—an event empowering students to leverage space technologies in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Earth operations data is critical to tracking progress on nearly half of the UN’s 169 SDG targets. With ASU’s unique access to satellite data, SpaceHACK empowers students to turn ideas into actionable solutions for a sustainable future.
Are satellites the key to address environmental challenges?
We’re excited to share a new resource that shows how satellite operations are crucial in addressing global challenges.
Satellite Operations: Introduction to Space is a beginner-friendly course that delves into satellite types, onboard subsystems, and the unique challenges of the space environment. By understanding these key elements, you can become part of the solution for a more sustainable future.
Developed by experts from ASU and Qwaltec, this course offers valuable insights into how space technologies are helping tackle environmental issues and drive positive change for our planet.
How empowered do you feel to be part of the change for a sustainable future?
